Notre Dame predicted to land 6-foot-6 monster in latest 5-star coup

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have certainly re-established themselves as a national power over the last decade after a pretty extensive dry period, and they seem to be getting stronger and stronger on the recruiting trail.

Marcus Freeman put together the fourth-ranked recruiting class for 2026, nabbing five-star edge rusher Rodney Dunham as well as a hefty amount of four-star talents in a class that featured 25 commitments overall.

He has also gotten an incredible head start on 2027, having already secured commitments from 14 players. And while Freeman has yet to bag any five-star recruits for next year, he appears to be making significant headway on one in particular.

Steve Wiltfong of On 3 has predicted the Fighting Irish to land five-star offensive tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola, projecting that Notre Dame will beat out the Miami Hurricanes for the 6-foot-6, 295-pound star.

Olubobola would represent the second five-star player Freeman has landed between 2026 and 2027, and it would come at a premium position, too.

The problem for Notre Dame is that Olubobola has received offers from 42 schools in total, including Florida, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, and Texas, among others, so the Fighting Irish are certainly facing stiff competition for his services.

Fortunately, Olubobola seems to favor South Bend at the moment, a change from earlier in his recruitment when he seemed to be leaning toward Texas A&M.

Now, it looks like the Jersey City, N.J. product will ultimately decide between Notre Dame and Miami, the latter of whom faced Indiana in the National Championship Game this past winter.

Olubobola is the third-ranked tackle and the 15th-ranked player nationally in the class of 2027, via 247 Sports’ composite rankings. He is also the top-ranked player in the state of New Jersey.

Notre Dame went 10-2 this past season, concluding the campaign on a 10-game winning streak. It declined to participate in a bowl game after being snubbed from the College Football Playoff, one year after losing to Ohio State in the National Championship Game.

The Fighting Irish will open up their 2026 campaign at home against Wisconsin on Sunday, Sept. 6. Notre Dame has an incredibly easy schedule heading into next season, with BYU and Miami representing the only two opponents that were ranked at the end of 2025.
