OTL: Signs Point to OL Resurgence in Baltimore
As we plunge back into the slow portions of the NFL offseason, fans continue to provide early evaluations of Baltimore’s draft haul, ongoing needs, and 2026 potential. While I’ll do more of the same later in today’s Out to Lunch, I want to start by reminding fans of what the Ravens’ top priority needs to be: Striking a deal with QB Lamar Jackson:
Lamar Jackson isn’t getting any cheaper.
@JasonLaCanfora sounds the alarm on the Lamar Jackson negotiations. If the Ravens see him as their franchise QB, every day they wait is a million-dollar mistake. Do you agree? #RavensFlock pic.twitter.com/c18tZ1EaJ1
— The Daily Flock Show (@DailyFlockShow) May 4, 2026
No, the signing of Skylar Thompson isn’t putting any pressure on Jackson to sign (though the smart IPP exemption placed on CJ Okoye might be a good reason):
The Ravens waived UDFA Sylvester, signed QB Skylar Thompson and designated CJ Okoye as an IPP (international) exempt player allowing them to carry 91 players on the roster. Campbell should sign this week. They will still have 1 open roster spot. https://t.co/rvHo0NaK4q

While there could be some debate amongst others at his position, it’s fair to argue that Jackson is the face of the NFL. For a franchise thought of extremely highly, losing a leader of that stature would not bode well for anyone’s reputation:

I’m not quite sure I’d crown the Ravens as ‘legendary’ just yet, but a few more Super Bowls (especially ones that cement Jackson’s legacy) might do that.
Alongside the more theoretical reasons to invest in Jackson, GM Eric DeCosta just invested heavily in the QB’s protection. While Vega Ioane alone is a fantastic addition to the team, the competition opposite him will help support the Center, while Ioane’s presence at RG will support RT Roger Rosengarten:
NFL’s Bucky Brooks called Vega Ioane one of the best player-team fits in the draft, ranking him No. 2 overall.
Brooks said Ioane “embodies the Play Like a Raven mantra,” citing his physical style and fit in Baltimore’s power run scheme. pic.twitter.com/7VCkCSfvVC

Olaivavega Ioane and Roger Rosengarten playing alongside each other will be fantastic. Playing with Daniel Faalele was a difficult experience for Rosengarten, and I expect him to have a great season. Also, being coached by Dwayne Ledford will work wonders for him.
— Pedro H. Rhormes (@rhormes_) May 5, 2026
I firmly agree that Rosengarten’s position next to Daniel Faalele significantly hindered his ability to focus on RT. With each of these improvements, Jackson has reason to feel good about his hogs up front:
Not many people may realize this, but Roger Rosengarten stepped up his game to finish the season strong. His performance from Week 13-18 was impressive:
– Offense Grade: 71.9
– Run Block Grade: 72.6
– Pass Block Grade: 72.3
– 9 pressures allowed
– No sacks allowedAll of this…
— Pedro H. Rhormes (@rhormes_) May 6, 2026
Agreed with Femi. Looking for a bounce back year from Roger before his final year.
The right side with Vega is going to be leaps & bounds better with upside to be the best in the league.
Left side will be the question. Ronnie’s still solid & Simpson’s an improvement. #Ravens https://t.co/0XlARG1MZm

Meanwhile, the Ravens also invested in Jackson’s weapons through the draft. Amongst other additions, Rookie gave these rookies a warm Baltimore welcome:

While that’s obviously the best thing you’ll see today, fans are still wondering who the biggest X-factor will be this upcoming season. Offensively, Drayton Jackson thinks it’ll be Tez Walker, but it could easily be one of Ja’Kobi Lane, Elijah Sarratt, Matthew Hibner or Josh Cuevas as pass catchers.
Who’s to say it won’t be Adam Randall, though?
Randall is certainly a raw prospect, and I’m usually wary of late-round fan favorites expected to make a big impact. That said, one of Randall’s biggest areas of opportunity is pass blocking. This season, Baltimore will welcome a coach well thought of in this area:
Faulkner seemed to do a damn good job in Pittsburgh especially with guys in pass protection.
I think Randall’s upside is very intriguing https://t.co/CoL9fiUMKr
— Cole Jackson (@ColeJacksonFB) May 5, 2026
If you pair that news with the eye test, it’s hard to believe Lamar Jackson wouldn’t be intrigued by his Derrick Henry insurance plan:

Most importantly, at least for the immediate future, is the defense. Looking back at last season, who on earth would have had faith in DC Zach Orr’s unit? I wanted to believe, but they never gave us a reason to:
That entire 4th quarter I didn’t have an ounce of hope that zach orr would give me a stop LMAOOO that defense was horrid https://t.co/gvIKF0qtcE

Defensive 3 and out rate forced in 2025…
Best
1. Texans – 29.4%
2. Broncos – 27.1%
3. Raiders – 25.8%
4. Rams – 24.9%
4. Browns – 24.7%Worst
28. Giants – 15.0%
29. Colts – 14.8%
30. Saints – 14.4%
31. Cardinals – 13.9%
32. Ravens – 13.3%— NFL Researcher (@NFL_Researcher) May 5, 2026
Baltimore has already made improvements on paper by signing EDGE Trey Hendrickson, S Jaylinn Hawkins and DL Calais Campbell, while drafting EDGE Zion Young, CB Chandler Rivers and DL Rayshaun Benny.

DJ Reader would’ve been a nice add, but Calais Campbell brings a more diverse skillset relative to who the #Ravens have on the roster.
I think the Ravens made the right choice. https://t.co/tCA2nk9SPk
— Cole Jackson (@ColeJacksonFB) May 5, 2026
Tale of the Tape: What Does Chandler Rivers Bring to Baltimore?
Rayshaun Benny has a clear path to being able to get on to the field on run downs as DT2, Jenkins+Campbell are older and want to keep Campbell fresh for his pass rush upside. Would venture to say if the last active roster spot came down to Jenkins vs Benny I would keep Benny. Not…
— Yuri (@Yuri_Ravens) May 5, 2026
At the helm, however, is a Head Coach who made his name by closing games:
More comfort for the Ravens heading into 2026 Minter went 8–0 when leading at halftime in 2025. No more blown leads #RavensFlock https://t.co/oG0OqGnMjT pic.twitter.com/NvcND0yJew

That should be music to Lamar Jackson’s ears, and these boring months are the perfect time for EDC to capitalize with a long-term contract.
