Back in 2024, the Chicago White Sox selected Caleb Bonemer 43rd overall (2nd round) out of Okemos High School. The Michigan product made his professional debut last year and impressed across the Low-A and High-A levels by winning Carolina League MVP honors by slashing .281/.400/.458 with 10 homers and 27 steals in 96 games at age 19.
At seasons end, he got his feet wet in High-A, appearing in 11 total games. To begin 2026, he is once again starting with the Winston-Salem Dash and is putting his 55 grade power on full display by hitting 12 home runs so far in 27 games played. His most recent long ball may have been the most impressive, as it came off a rehabbing Gerrit Cole.

In the first inning of Tuesday, May 5ths game, New York Yankees rehabbing ace Gerrit Cole made his fourth injury rehab assignment of the year. Cole underwent Tommy John surgery in March of 2025 and is expected back in the big leagues later this month, but so far he’s had a ton of trouble getting results while on injury rehab assignment.
The White Sox minor league affilate Winston-Salem was the most recent team to face him. On just the sixth pitch of the game, Bonemer took Cole deep on a towering home run to left field.
Bonemer didn’t stop there against Cole, lining a hard single to left field in his second at-bat. In their third matchup, he was hit in the back by the first pitch he saw, raising some eyebrows as to whether it may have been intentional. Taken together, it was another statement performance from Bonemer, one that not only reinforced his red-hot start, but also showed he isn’t backing down from elite competition like Cole.
With how well Bonemer has been performing, it shouldn’t be long before he forces his way to Double-A. It’s clear the No.3 prospect in the organization has a bright future and we can expect big things from him going forward
