Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White

Head coach Stephanie White and the Indiana Fever’s preparations for the new season are in full swing. The team, however, is missing the services of one of their key frontcourt players, Monique Billings.

The 6-foot-4 forward joined the Fever in free agency after spending the 2025 campaign with the Golden State Valkyries. Billings signed a two-year, $1.6 million contract to take her talents to Indiana.

Billings brings a wealth of experience to the table. The 30-year-old is entering her ninth season in the WNBA. She holds career averages of 6.3 points and 5.6 rebounds.

Billings also linked up with Caitlin Clark in the offseason as part of the Team USA squad that went 5-o in the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Stephanie White’s update on Indiana Fever forward Monique Billings

Billings started all three preseason contests for Coach White. The former UCLA Bruins star, however, was forced to leave Saturday’s blowout win against Nigeria in the second quarter. She was diagnosed with a right ankle injury and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Billings was nowhere to be found in practice as the Fever resumed training on Monday. When asked for an update on the veteran, White had some concerning news.

“The only update is she did not practice today,” White said of Billings. “We’re going to keep evaluating it day by day. But knowing that we have the full week, we’ll give her an opportunity to make sure that she’s as close to 100% as possible before we throw her out there.”

White refused to provide a timetable on Billings’ injury. This casts doubt on her status for Saturday’s regular-season opener against the Dallas Wings.

White has indicated that the Fever will take a cautious approach to Billings’ health. The last thing they want is for her to aggravate the injury so early on in the season.
