Chicago White Sox acquire veteran reliever in trade with the Phillies
The Chicago White Sox bullpen will be getting some extra relief, as they made a trade. According to an announcement made on X, the White Sox acquired right-hander Trevor Richards from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for cash considerations.
To make room for Richards on the 40-man roster, the White Sox transferred right-hander Drew Thrope (Tommy John surgery) to the 60-day injured list. Richards became the odd man out when Phillies closer, right-hander Jhoan Duran, returned from the injured list.

The White Sox bullpen has been okay, but not great this season — ranked the 23rd-best ERA in Major League Baseball (4.71). Despite the high ERA, the bullpen is tied for sixth in saves (11). Right-hander Seranthony Dominguez (3.95 ERA) has eight of them.

A veteran of nine major league seasons, Richards will offer manager Will Venable someone to eat innings or possibly be an opener. In two outings with the Phillies this season, Richards has a 2.08 ERA and pitched to a 1.93 ERA in nine games at Triple-A Leigh Valley.
Other than Dominguez, the White Sox have seen right-hander Jordan Hicks do well (3.95 ERA), but he needs to lower his WHIP (2.05) to be more effective. Left-hander Bryan Hudson has also done well (1.13 ERA). The White Sox claimed Hudson off waivers from the New York Mets in March.
