‘Show some damn respect’: Stephen A Smith hits Bears with reality check after Packers loss

Stephen A. Smith Notre Dame

Stephen A. Smith is known for being one of most outspoken and fiery sports analysts today. He does not hold back with his thoughts about different topics, and he did the same on Monday. The ESPN host hit the Chicago Bears with a reality check one day after they lost to the Green Bay Packers.

Chicago entered the matchup riding a two-game winning streak. However, the team saw it snapped by their rivals at Lambeau Field 31-7. The Bears struggled on both ends and the hosts took advantage of it by winning by a huge margin.

Tyson Bagent started for the second straight game for the injured Caleb Williams. He completed 12-of-21 passes for 87 yards and two interceptions. The QB1 continues to recover from a hamstring injury but could return to practice as early as this week. Williams has missed the last three games after he got hurt in Week 2 versus the Minnesota Vikings.

Stephen A. Smith speaks on Bears’ loss to Packers

Smith made it clear that he doesn’t mind Chicago trash talking Green Bay ahead 5 clash. However, he emphasized the importance of respecting opponents. The TV personality added that he understands why Packers linebacker Zaire Franklin fired back at Luther Burden III.

“Respect your opponents,” Smith said. “One of the great, great movies, “Any Given Sunday,” the title of that movie says it all… It’s the National Football League. Anything can happen. You have to know that. And all of these cats in the league are professional. They’re professional football players. When you talk about when you get in front of a microphone and you talking about making the team quit and just beating them really bad and all this other stuff, you’re feeling yourself because of what happened last year. Well, that was last year.

“This is a new season and it ain’t the same situation… I didn’t blame Franklin for responding the way that he did at all. Because what did he say? Talk about making us quit and all of this other stuff. You know what? You know, show some damn respect. So Green Bay reminded them, you know what? You might beat us the next time you play us. You might be better than us overall. Who knows? We’ll find out. But you’ve got to respect the competition every single Sunday in the National Football League.”

The rivals faced each other thrice last season. They split the regular-season meetings before the Bears eliminated the Packers in the Wild Card Round. The teams will battle again in Week 16 at Soldier Field in what promises to be another fiery matchup.
