Chicago Bears 2026 NFL Draft first round target: Dillon Thieneman

Chicago Bears, Dillon Thieneman

The Chicago Bears have the 25th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. They also have a wide variety of positional needs that they need to address in the draft this year. Among these is the safety position as their entire starting safety room from 2025 left in free agency.

Indeed, whomever the Bears get to play safety for them in 2026 (alongside the recently signed Coby Bryant) is going to have some big shoes to fill. Chicago’s secondary helped lead the NFL in turnovers last season during the Bears’ renaissance, and expectations will be even higher this upcoming year.

Dillon Thieneman of Oregon could be a player at whom the Bears take a good look.

The Chicago Bears could select Dillon Thieneman in the 2026 NFL Draft

With Kevin Byard and Jaquan Brisker now playing elsewhere, Chicago needs some depth at the safety position. Bryant brings Super Bowl-winning experience to the team, but they also need controllable young talent.

With the 25th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, it is possible that the team could select Thieneman out of Oregon. Per Yahoo Sports:

“Thieneman is the Bears’ “best-case scenario” at No. 25. Not only is the Oregon product an athletic freak, he possesses exactly the type of athleticism and versatility that defensive coordinator Dennis Allen covets in his secondary. At just 21, he’ll be one of the younger options that could be on the board.”

Thieneman played his first two years of college football at Purdue. As a freshman in 2023, he had 106 total tackles and six interceptions.

Last year, his first playing for the Ducks, he had 96 total tackles and two interceptions, as well as five passes defended.

The positive thing about Thieneman is that he is NFL ready and could play significant snaps for Allen’s defense right away. That being said, there will be some “welcome to the NFL moments” that he will experience, too.
