Chicago Bears 2026 NFL Draft Target: Peter Woods
The Chicago Bears, finally, had a season worth remembering in 2025. Under new head coach Ben Johnson, Chicago went 11-6 and won the NFC North. They also advanced to the divisional round of the NFL Playoffs after knocking the Green Bay Packers out in the wild card game.
For the first time in a long time, the Bears are not picking early in the first round of the NFL Draft. Their successful 2025 campaign resulted in them getting the 25th overall pick, one that they will undoubtedly use to find a solution to one of their glaring roster holes, such as defensive line.
The Chicago Bears could select Peter Woods in the 2026 NFL Draft

While Chicago’s defense was the best in the NFL at generating turnovers last season, their pass rush was among the league’s worst. If they cannot find a way to create more pressure on opposing quarterbacks, their rebuilt secondary may find a hard time repeating last year’s interception-heavy success.
Part of having a good pass rush is being able to generate interior pressure, and Peter Woods of Clemson could be a steal at the 25th overall pick in this regard.
Per Yahoo Sports:
“Following an impressive 2024 campaign at Clemson, Woods came into the preseason as a projected Top 10 pick. 2025 was met with plenty of inconsistencies on the field and poor testing results at his pro day. This has caused him to drop like a rock, while many are projecting him to slide out of the first round.
“The gamble here is simply banking on the athleticism seen on tape, not on his Pro Day testing results. If the Bears feel comfortable with what they saw on the field and are OK with his shorter arms, this might still be their most “ideal” outcome for filling a need while acquiring a talent many viewed as a Top 10 lock coming into last season.”
Last season, Woods had 30 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks. In 2024, though, he had 28 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and 3.0 sacks.
As noted above, Woods’ stock has fallen due to his inconsistent 2025 season and poor combine results. However, he still has the potential to be the projected top-10 pick that many viewed him as after the 2024 season.
If he falls to the Bears at pick 25, they may take a good hard look at him as a potential building block on their defensive line.
