Chicago Bears rookie clears up video controversy
As part of the Chicago Bears day three picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, the team addressed a need at defensive back. Chicago took former Texas defensive back Malik Muhammad in the fourth round at No. 124 overall.
Muhammad then addressed the media for the first time, showing his excitement to join the franchise. He even mentioned a connection he had to former Bears defensive back Charles Tillman who was his chaperone at the scouting combine. Muhammad also said he loved watching Jaylon Johnson play, trying to pick parts from his game.
But as video of Muhammad’s selection surfaced, and there was a blank look on his face. As social media does, they overreated right away and claimed he wasn’t happy being drafted by the Bears.
However, Muhammad had to clear that up on Tuesday.

It took Muhammad a few days as he was probably still wrapping his head around being drafted and figuring out plans to get to Chicago. But he finally released a statement trying to clear things up:
“In light of my draft night video going viral, I wanted to take a moment to address it. Hearing my name called was a dream come true. I was overwhelmed with excitement and emotion.
I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity and ready to continue my career at the highest level. I can’t wait to get to work and do everything I can to make the city of Chicago proud. Thank you to the Bears organization!

It’s clear that Muhammad is excited to be a member of the Bears and the emotions of draft day just got the best of him. He will figure to compete for a key role right away, too. Plus, the chance to be coached by Al Harris has to be a good feeling for a rookie.
He will report to rookie mini camp next week as the Bears will host more offseason workouts.
