Praise pours in for Sophie Cunningham after big news
Sophie Cunningham was a key factor for the Indiana Fever last season. Since her arrival in February 2025, she quickly became the vocal leader for the team.
The seven-year veteran averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game last season. Cunningham also shot career highs of 46.9% from the field and 43.2% from three.
On top of her impressive shooting, she played the role of enforcer well. Cunningham protected her teammates from excessive physical action from opposing teams throughout the season.
Unfortunately, her first year with Indiana was cut short because of a right knee injury. The 29-year-old sharpshooter tore her right MCL, which caused her to play in only 30 games.

Fever fans are hoping to see the return of their enforcer, as her free agency still looms. Cunningham’s one-year contract expired after the 2025 WNBA season. Both the Fever and Cunningham have shown interest in extending their partnership. However, league rules prevented the two parties from discussing the contract until the negotiation window opened on Wednesday.
In the meantime, Cunningham has been busy this offseason — both in recovering from her injury and her off-court activities. Most recently, it was announced that she is part of the 2026 Sports Illustrated swimsuit model lineup.
