OTL: Taking a Look at Baltimore’s QB Room (Behind Lamar Jackson)
There’s no more important position on the field than quarterback in the National Football League. For the Ravens, they find themselves in the minority of elite quarterback play, with a 2x MVP and 3x All-Pro in Lamar Jackson. However, we’ve seen over the last couple of seasons (excluding 23’ and 24’) that this Ravens team will only go as far as their QB play takes them. As the Ravens prepare for the 2026 season, there’s going to be some new faces in the quarterback room. UDFA’s Joey Fagnano and Diego Pavia both signed three-year deals with the team prior to the team’s rookie mini camp, and the team also added veteran Skylar Thompson, who signed on Monday. Head coach Jesse Minter has stated the team could carry five quarterbacks during camp, which raises the question for Ravens fans: with the injury history of Lamar Jackson, who are the options behind him?
Tyler Huntley
7-9 Career Record as an NFL Starter
There’s no doubt the perfect replacement to Jackson has been Tyler “Snoop” Huntley since he entered the league in 2020 as an undrafted free agent. Huntley allows the Ravens offense to keep moving forward, without the need to truly re-script a game plan. He’s shown time and time again that he’s capable of succeeding in an offense centered around Jackson, despite lacking most of the traits that make Lamar an every-down threat. His mobility and decision-making were on full display last year for the Ravens, throwing for 426 yards, 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and rushing for another 151 while completing 77.6% of his passes. Huntley came away with wins in both of his starts in 2025, taking down two NFC playoff teams in the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers. The Ravens brought in both Cooper Rush to ultimately take over the backup spot last season, before signing Huntley to the practice squad, following his release from the Cleveland Browns. After just seven quarters as a starter, and 13 total points to show for it, Rush was benched, opening the door for Snoop to take over the reins. He never looked back, earning himself a two-year contract extension this past March.
The No. 2 quarterback position truly feels like a lock, leaving it Huntley’s position to lose.
Joe Fagnano
2026 UDFA Signing
Out of every undrafted free agent the Ravens signed, Joe Fagnano might be one of the most intriguing additions to the roster. Coming out of high school in Williamsport, PA, Fagnano committed to Maine in 2019 before transferring to UConn in 2023. With the Huskies, Fagnano appeared in 23 games, starting in 19 of them. In those 23 games, the graduate senior threw for 4,936 yards, 45 touchdowns, and just 6 INTs, totaling 94 career passing touchdowns across seven seasons. Standing at 6-foot-3, Fagnano has solid size to work from the pocket, which is key as his mobility won’t bring much success. He’s shown average ball speed, but his placement on underneath to intermediate routes is where he excels. He shows real awareness in his ball placement, with very few turnover-worthy plays. The Ravens haven’t had much success in the drafting process of backup quarterbacks over recent years (Devin Leary and Trace McSorley), but grabbing one of the most experienced QBs in college football is a start. I’m not jumping on the desk shouting that Fagnano is going to be an elite starter in the NFL, but the seven-year senior has an opportunity to develop into a real solid NFL backup.
Diego Pavia
2026 UDFA Signing
If you’ve watched college football at all in the last two years, you’ve heard the name or caught a glimpse of former Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia. Whether it be his Heisman finalist run (or the antics that followed), his numerous podcast remarks, or his family’s unorthodox style of support, Pavia made himself a household name. I don’t believe too many people were truly surprised to see the senior quarterback go undrafted, as his size and off-the-field antics were real talking points throughout the draft process. Measuring just 5-foot-10, Pavia was the smallest quarterback in the draft class, after being marked at 6-foot while at Vanderbilt. Over four seasons as a starter at the FBS level, at New Mexico State and Vanderbilt, Pavia posted 10,224 passing yards, 88 touchdowns, 27 interceptions, and 3,475 yards and 31 touchdowns on the ground. His dual-threat ability and constant chip on his shoulder have turned him into one of the more interesting quarterbacks over the last few years. Hate him or love him, there’s a reason he was in New York for the 2025 Heisman Trophy ceremony. He plays with toughness and a can’t-lose attitude, which really put Vanderbilt on the map over the last two seasons. If he can mature, he deserves a look through camp and the preseason. However, sitting as one of three quarterbacks fighting for a roster spot, time will only tell if Pavia can crack an NFL roster.
Skylar Thompson
1-3 Career Record as an NFL Starter
The Ravens added veteran quarterback Skylar Thompson on Monday, making him the fifth quarterback on the roster. Miami selected Thompson in the seventh round of the 2022 draft (247th overall). He’s got four career starts under his belt, including a 2022 playoff start for the Dolphins. Since entering the league in 2022, Thompson has thrown for just 941 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He’s coming off a stint with the Steelers last season, and could wind up being nothing more than a camp body for Baltimore. He’s got the experience that both Fagnano and Pavia lack, but he lacks the skills of Lamar and Huntley. It’s a new system and a new scene for Thompson, which could work in his favor, but it’s hard to imagine a world where he beats out Huntley for QB2. The emergency third quarterback could be his role if he performs well throughout camp.
