Hammond Mayor believes Chicago Bears’ decision is coming soon
The Chicago Bears stadium saga rolls on. After the bill didn’t go through the Illinois after running out of time on Sunday night into Monday morning, the Bears are stuck where they have been from months.
They are still deciding between Arlington Heights and Hammond, Indiana with the hope that a resolution comes quickly. But it’s a little more complicated than that.
The bill from Illinois is similar to Indiana except for the stadium ownership situation. The reality is, it doesn’t feel like we are any closer to figuring out where they will be building a new stadium. Following that session down in Springfield, the Bears did release a statement saying they will provide an update some point soon.
Now, the mayor of Hammond believes that decision is finally coming.
Chicago Bears to make decision on stadium soon?
When speaking to the Northwest Indiana Times, Mayor Thomas McDermott sounded confident that the team would be heading to Hammond when it’s all said and done. He believes Hammond will hear about a decision very soon.
“Indiana did what they were asked to do. Illinois couldn’t do what they were asked to do. So I’m confident the Bears are going to choose Hammond,” McDermott said, via Dan Carden of the Northwest Indiana Times.
“I think we have a great offer on the table,” McDermott said. “We’re going to offer a superior fan experience. It’s going to be an awesome stadium in an awesome location. But the Bears have to huddle and make the determination now whether or not they’re going to make the move to Indiana. In 30 days, we should have an answer.”
McDermott’s comment matches what the Bears released in their statement as well. But is the team really set to make a decision? Indiana has been on the table for a few months now. But the Bears have still pursued the Arlington Heights project, or at least attempted to.
Was this the final straw for Illinois? It feels like we will find out one way or anther this month.
