The Chicago White Sox add Trevor Richards to the 26-man roster
The White Sox have added veteran right-handed pitcher Trevor Richards to the team’s 26-man roster on Thursday. This also comes with a player getting optioned as right-handed pitcher Jordan Leasure returns to Triple-A Charlotte. Richards is a veteran reliever who has been a bit of a journeyman throughout his nine-year MLB career. He pitched in a pair of games this year for the Philadelphia Phillies and went 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA in 4.1 innings. Chicago acquired Richards on Tuesday in a trade with the Phillies for cash considerations.
Richards would likely enter the White Sox bullpen as a middle reliever and would be one of the veterans in the bullpen to provide some more stability. In terms of Leasure, he has been ineffective as he has a 6.06 ERA in 16.1 innings out of the bullpen. This move gives Leasure a chance to reset a bit in Triple-A and get back to where he is expected to be. He has struggled recently, allowing seven earned runs in his last six innings.
Chicago’s bullpen is a bit of a weaker part of the team, being 21st in reliever ERA, 24th in reliever WHIP, and 26th in reliever walks per nine innings. As a result, this should help the team going forward. It will be intriguing to see how Richards does with the White Sox going forward.
