Chicago White Sox Will Venable compliments prospects mound presence
The Chicago White Sox’s starting rotation has been one of the worst in baseball to begin the year. The rotation has been so bad that Opening Day starter right-hander Shane Smith was optioned to Triple-A.
Despite the starting staff’s struggles, the White Sox have innings to fill, which is why left-hander and No. 2 prospect Noah Schultz will get the start on Tuesday. Standing 6-1, Schultz has a commanding presence on the mound, but has a quiet demeanor about him, per manager Will Venable.

“He’s about as polite of a guy as you can be, but he does have an edge when he goes out there and pitches,” Venable said of Schultz’s mound presence.

Schultz, 22, has a 3-0 record with a 1.29 ERA and 19 strikeouts (two walks) in 14.0 innings and had an up-and-down 2025. In five starts with Double-A Birmingham, Schultz was 0-2 with a 9.37 ERA, while having a 4-3 record with a 3.34 ERA in 12 starts at Triple-A Charlotte.
The Naperville, Illinois, native should hopefully bring stability to the White Sox rotation, as right-handers David Martin (2.50 ERA), Sean Burke (3.60), and Erick Fedde (3.38) have done okay.
