The Chicago Bulls are entering the NBA offseason with ample cap room and are expected to be one of the biggest players in free agency. They also possess a pair of first-round draft picks, including the No. 4 overall selection, so it should be an exciting summer for Bulls fans.
Chicago won just 31 games this past season and has posted a winning campaign only once over the last decade, so the fanbase is certainly starving for some form of success.
While the Bulls won’t just transform into title contenders overnight, they can certainly take some significant steps in building a foundation in the coming weeks, and new top executive Bryson Graham might be just the man for the job.
But will Chicago actually be able to strike big on the free-agent market next month?
Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus isn’t so sure, and his latest prediction might aggravate Bulls fans.
Chicago Bulls land rough free agency prediction
In a piece where Pincus made predictions for some of the top free agents, the Bulls were conspicuously absent in terms of landing spots.
Names like Jalen Duren, Austin Reaves, Peyton Watson and Ayo Dosunmu (who has been linked to a potential reunion with Chicago) were all projected to sign elsewhere, leaving the Bulls with a whole bunch of cap room and not a whole lot of solutions.
That would be enough for Chicago fans to rage, but I will say this: it might not be the worst thing in the world.
This year’s free-agent class features a whole lot of potential fool’s gold, particularly when it comes to players like Duren and Reaves. Giving either player max money could end up being a major mistake for the Bulls long term, so they might be better off avoiding handing out any massive contracts.
There are still plenty of other names that would make sense for Chicago, and they would come much cheaper. Perhaps those are the options the Bulls should explore.
Chicago could also peruse the trade market to see if there are any answers there, especially with the Bulls having an impressive stash of assets.
